What a busy few weeks we’ve had! Students are enjoying our water unit as they engage in various activities, experiments, and in building our terrariums. We had a chance to go to Rivershire to observe and to collect evidence to see if Rivershire’s pond water was healthy enough to sustain life for the animals and plants. A big thank you goes to Mrs. Shen, Mrs. Plendl, and Mrs. Briggs (Claire’s grandma) for chaperoning and helping the students to navigate through the 3 stations. We really appreciate your time and company!!
Students also have been meeting to come up with a solution to a real life problem at Half Day school. They had a chance to work in groups to come up with a plan and to design something that could be used to solve a Half Day problem. Some of the ideas that they came up with are pencils that roll away, desks that move, things that fall out of our desks, etc… They used a software to design something 3-D to help solve that problem. Mrs. Ristow and Mrs. Wilcox will be printing out a protocol and we can’t wait to see what they look like.
The PTO kindly brought in an assembly called The Great American Challenge to support the area of social studies. Students were called up in teams of 6 to answer various questions. It was a great way for us to have fun and to learn at the same time.
Students finished reading the mystery called The Windy City Mystery. It was fun to see the students use their reading skills to come up with character traits, to make inferences, collect the data, and to come up with possible suggestions as to who the mystery person is. Ask your child about it as they finally know who left all those mystery clues!
In math, students were given several parameters in coming up with a plan to convince parents that they should get a dog. Students had to decide what type of fencing they would need, figure out the area and perimeter of the fenced in area, think about what the dog needs, and to write a letter to parents explaining their plan. We can’t wait for you to see these!
Hope you enjoyed your log weekend. I’ve posted many pictures from the past few weeks including today’s DEAR time that we had outside.
