It’s been a busy, busy week for us as students finished their research about the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Students have been working hard on using those facts that they learned to write a narrative about the fire. Some chose to write it from the point of view of a child, while others retold the story from the business owner’s perspective. Most of them are finishing up their final copies and are eagerly waiting to share them with you next Wednesday. If your child has been absent, getting the story done in time might be more challenging. For those that are in that situation, it would be great if he/she could work on writing his/her rough copies at home this week and bring it to school. Mrs. Lathrop asked the students to illustrate a fact that they wrote down in library class. If your child didn’t complete his/her illustrations, it’ll be coming home today. Please try to finish the illustrations and bring it back to school. She will be expecting them back on Monday.
We have had fun going down memory lane as students have been given back their work from this year to reflect on. This week, students have carefully looked through their work to group them into categories that best fit that piece of work. After our Chicago show on Wednesday evening, you will be returning to our classroom to have your child walk you through his/her portfolios. It is amazing to see how much they have grown this year.
Chicago show/portfolio night is Wednesday, 4/22. Our downstairs classes will need to be here at 6:15p.m.. Show time is 6:30. Students should report to the gym, while parents find seats for the show. We have a special T-shirt that each child will be given to wear when they come. I’ve suggested that they wear something comfortable that they can wear under a t-shirt. Once the show is over, students will be giving the T-shirts back to me. I’ll keep it until the day of our Chicago field trip (Wednesday, 6/3) because the children will be wearing it downtown.
We had such a wonderful time at the World’s Fair! There were so many parents that helped to make this day such a special one. Thank you so much for all that came out to help and for all those “behind the scene” helpers! It was so much fun to see each child all dressed up. I’ve uploaded the pictures on our website. Please stop by to take a look and “experience” our day with us! Enjoy your weekend!!
