Thank you so much parents for the chance to talk to you and to celebrate the ways in which your child has grown and for us to set our goals for the last trimester. It’s really hard to believe that we are in the last trimester of our school year. Time really has flown by. I appreciate all that you do at home and for all the support you have shown. I am thankful.
This week we finished our book groups. Throughout our reading, students worked on summarizing what they read, learned some new words along the way, made some connections, and found text support to prove their answers to questions that were asked. Students are creating pic collages that include 4 character traits to describe the main character in the book they read. It was a challenge for some students to think about what 4 words best describe the main character in the story. Underneath the character traits, the students had to give an example from the reading to support their answer. Some students got stuck in pointing out a specific situation that happened where the character trait displayed was atypical. We stopped to talk about how we need to think of the character as a whole and not to let one event define who he/she was. We can’t wait to share these with you on portfolio night, which will be coming up in April.
In math we continue to work our way through fractions. Some students are gaining a lot of confidence with these concepts while others need a bit more practice. Students can log into their envision accounts and select lessons from unit 9 and unit 10 to watch the videos again, to take a 5 question quiz, or to practice some sample questions.
Students are looking forward to our new unit on rocks and minerals. There will be many hands on activities for us to do!
Some of our community letters have come back and we are in the midst of reading through those to learn more about our world. We can’t wait for more to come.
We will resume spelling and Home learning logs next week once PARCC part 1 is completed.
Please remember that musical auditions are coming up for the school musical. If your child is interested in joining or trying out, please fill out the form and return it to school. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Franz.
As a part of our 3rd grade curriculum, 3rd graders will be asked to visit/research a Chicago landmark and to create a brochure, trifold, or multi-media project to share with the class. More details will be coming home soon, but I just wanted to give you a heads up for now.
Enjoy this beautiful day and weekend! We love getting some vitamin D!
